In our district, alot of work is being done to address the achievement gap. In your opinion, what are some practices which you feel to be important in closing this gap?
What are the essential qualities you look for when hiring new teachers? During the interview process, how do you determine if the candidate will be a good fit for the school?
How do you prevent burn-out and remain focused on the big picture? Are there any strategies you have found particularly helpful to manage stress in such a high demanding job?
I would ask a an assistant principal, after completing their first year, if they can could describe how they feel about working with teachers from their administrative point of view?
Was it easy to pick out the good and bad teachers right away?
What do you feel were the most useful things that you learned in grad-school that allowed you to be successful in your internship or in your first job as an AP?
How did you go about finding your intership and/or your first administrative position? What would have done differently or done the same?
What policies or norms were in place when you arrived that were different from what you would want? What steps have you taken to change these, if any? Have you been successful?
Where do you start once you have evaluated the true needs of improvement for the school? With discussions with other adminstrators, I have been told you start with the test scores, do you think that is true for all?
What was your process in choosing the school you are working in? If you think it is a good fit, what did you do that helped you find the right fit? If it is not a good fit, what would you do differently in selecting a school?
As a new administrator, do you feel that your education and teaching/ leadership experience has well prepared you to take on the responsibilities of a school administrator? If so, how? If not, what skills/ knowledge do you lack that would better enable you to perform your duties as a school administrator.
